The Big Idea [VIDEO]: How the Cooper Hewitt Digital Team Cultivates an Experimental Environment

As part of an interview series I’ve been working on that details “bootstrapped” initiatives in nonprofits, I sat down with Micah Walter and Seb Chan of the Cooper Hewitt to chat about their “Labs Blog.”

The Labs Blog is unique and interesting because it’s a bit of an experimental proving ground for ideas within the digital group, something that Seb was keen on bringing over to the institution from his prior gig at Australia’s renowned Powerhouse Museum.

A great model, I think, to help any nonprofit or cultural institution begin building a dialogue with other institutions, keep staff motivated and create fascinating insight into the ways museums are keeping pace with the digital age.

Check out the interview for more on how the Labs Blog creates a more transparent view of what goes on within the institution, and to see a related interview, watch this piece on Convergence at the Film Society of Lincoln Center.
