I had an amazing corporate training gig a couple of months ago. I was brought in to lead a communications training that covered effective copywriting and social media tactics to a major media company. A very funny media company. One that is wildly, wildly successful in social media. Could basically write the book on building raving fan communities.
So, you see, I was a little nervous. Who was I to tell them anything at all about social?
But the funny thing is that when you are on top, everybody’s nipping at your heels, trying to knock you off that perch. That’s why it’s useful, even at the elite levels of business, to be able to adopt a “hacker mentality.”
So I didn’t show up to the session with a Powerpoint deck full of the usual vanilla advice. “Ask more questions”…”create a content calendar.”
I came in with a set of “sacred cows” — those things that us social media pros take for granted. Which are also, coincidentally, the things that ultimately trip us up when everything starts changing.
And so, tonight, I’ll be riffing off that concept at Wix Lounge for a couple hundred content mavens. Check it out, if you can, or read on for some of the biggies. [Read more…] about Six social media sacred cows worth slaughtering
